1.Magnetic Differences in Minerals

Magnetic separation is based on the magnetic separation of minerals. The greater the magnetic susceptibility (magnetism) of the minerals, the more favorable the magnetic separation is. At the same time, the minerals need to have obvious magnetic differences, otherwise they cannot be separated and purified by magnetic separation.


2.Fineness and particle size composition of selected minerals

Magnetic separation is mainly suitable for the separation and purification of coarse and medium-sized minerals. When the minerals themselves can achieve monomer dissociation, they should be as coarse as possible, generally larger than 0.074mm, and the particle size should be as uniform as possible. At present, the lower limit of the effective magnetic separation fineness is 0.035mm. When it is too fine, the strong magnetic minerals are easily taken away by the water flow, and the weak magnetic minerals are not easily captured effectively. Using high magnetic field strength and high gradient, the lower limit can reach 10-15μm, but the magnetic separation effect of weak magnetic minerals is limited.


3.Sludge of Minerals

Some minerals, such as hematite and limonite, are easy to sludge and often form a slush cover. In addition, their magnetic properties are weak, which will greatly affect the magnetic separation effect. Take appropriate measures such as cleaning or controlling the grinding fineness.


4.Magnetic separation process

Generally, the mechanical ferromagnetism mixed in the crushing process is strong, and it should be removed by weak magnetic separation equipment first, and then the weak magnetic impurities in it should be removed by strong magnetic separation equipment; iron.

5.Magnetic separation equipment

The performance of magnetic separation equipment is an important factor affecting the effect of magnetic separation, mainly including magnetic field strength, magnetic 

ield gradient, structural characteristics, etc., which should be appropriately selected according to the characteristics of different minerals.


Electromagnetic and permanent magnet equipment is simple and effective, low cost, and widely used, but the magnetic field is weak, and the effect of processing weakly 

magnetic minerals is poor.


The high gradient magnetic separator has a strong magnetic field, which can separate many iron-containing mineral impurities from the mud.


The superconducting magnetic separator is a device that uses superconducting magnets to separate minerals. In the beneficiation of non-metallic minerals, conventional 

magnetic separators can better remove paramagnetic minerals or ferromagnetic minerals with high magnetic susceptibility. The lower particle size limit can be as low as 

20 μm, but the cost is higher.
